Kathleen Murphy - Education Coordinator
Kathleen Murphy is an active music educator in the state of Minnesota. Kathleen’s passion for music and education is most evident when she tells stories about her students’ successes; describes an upcoming concert she will be performing or attending; reminisces her time apprenticing with a violin maker in Le Cannet, France; and communicates the importance of an arts education.
Kathleen received her B.A. in Music (Instrumental Education) and minors in Education (K-12 music) and French from the College of St. Benedict. Kathleen also holds a license in K-12 Instrumental and Classroom Music with the Minnesota Department of Education. Currently, Kathleen teaches 4th-8th grade orchestra in the Robbinsdale Area Schools (ISD 281), is the Camp Manager of the Allegro Orchestra Camp at MacPhail Center for Music, is a violinist in the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra, and is pursuing an M.A. in Arts and Cultural Management through St. Mary’s University. Over the years, Kathleen has been involved with the Upper Midwest String and Chamber Music Conference, Allegro Orchestral Association, Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association, Minneapolis Public Schools, Nicolas Chassaing Luthier, and Minneapolis Pops Orchestra.
Kathleen was introduced to Viva Musica (VM) in 2012, when she met Erin through the Arts and Cultural Management program at St. Mary’s. Kathleen has known that she wanted to support VM’s efforts since she first heard Erin describe Viva Musica and its goal to support music and art education programs. In her role as VM’s Education Coordinator, Kathleen hopes to increase other educators’ awareness of Viva Musica and its programs, develop programming that complements Minnesota’s State Arts Standards, and provide students with unique opportunities to further explore their art forms of choice.
