Marium Asif - Founder, Vice President
Hi! My name is Marium Leena Asif and you probably remember me from local afterschool specials such as imaginary musical theater and invisible underwater moral glee club. I am a full time student with a passion for the advancement of mankind in internal and external areas. My current focus is a bachelor of science in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering. I like connections and patterns. What I love is how without even knowing, we gravitate towards certain numerical patterns. These same patterns are found in music and art, nature and science, humans and animals and pretty much every other system you can see. These patterns connect us and show a commonality that binds us all together. Since the beginning of mankind, we have used music and arts to calm us, to motivate us, to bring us together, to exalt praises, to give us hope, to bring out the humanity in us, etc. We cannot allow music to become a desolate part of this increasingly computer automated world. The anomalies in the synchronization that capture not only the attention of our eyes and ears but also the attention of our hearts and souls is something that should be kept alive. That is our humanistic mark, our individual imprint upon this world. That’s also the reason I chose to be a part of this organization. I can still remember the day Erin and I began this endeavor as it was yesterday. We knew no matter how hard things would get, this was something that we couldn’t allow to be forgotten and wanted to be a part of helping it succeed. My family never had the monetary means to provide instruments or classes and I was always envious of the talents of others in music. The way they would manipulate the sounds from their chosen instrument to produce such a beautiful melody that expressed the emotions, which couldn’t be understood with all the words in a language. In a world where connections are crucial, why should we take away some of the most impressionable ways we form them.
How does music make you feel?
- Music just makes me feel. Given the state I am in and the state I want to be in, music enhances my emotions. I love listening to new and upcoming artists who I know personally to get to know them better. The music allows a window into their mind and soul. You can hear their dreams, fears, and aspirations bellow out into their melodies. This instant connection makes me feel closer to them, closer to mankind.
