Meagan Reissy - Education Coordinator
Hi, I'm Meagan Reissy and I'm a Kindergarten/1st grade EL teacher at St. Paul City School and 2014-2015 will be my third year at the school. Before getting my teaching license I worked for 10 years at a hospital in St. Paul staffing nurses while getting my B.A. in Social Science, pursuing my Masters in Teaching ESL at Hamline, and also volunteer teaching adult ESL classes with the MN Literacy Council. In grade school, I played the flute at school and the handbells at church, then transitioned to choir in high school. I have always had a deep appreciation and love for music and felt like it helps to connect people. In addition to having many academic benefits for students in schools, music and art are things that can be shared across cultures. Music has been proven to help language learners develop vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and increase comprehension of learned language. Unfortunately, music and art is something that has been recently cut in schools, which is why I love what Viva Musica is doing so much! Music and art are integral parts of every student's education.
